Some missing chemicals in Graceville have authorities issuing a health warning to the public.

“Fumitoxin” is a pesticide used in several different crops-cans kill rats, weevils, and other pests; but can also be fatal in humans.

"It's a very dangerous chemical. It comes in a tablet form. These containers are sealed and only people who have a special license can have this chemical” says Chief Elton Horton of the Graceville Police Dept.

Experts at a Dothan supply store say distributors and users must have a state issued restricted use permit to sell and handle the poison.

Authorities believe there is a possibility the thief doesn't know just how dangerous this substance is.

"If some of our local youth did this, they need to understand the danger of this chemical. There were other chemicals in the building that were not taken, so this leads us to believe that the person knew exactly what kind of chemical this was" says Chief Horton.

Workers at the Golden Peanut Company could not comment on camera, but one told me that every single container of Fumitoxin that they had on site has been stolen.

"There were 19 containers taken and each one contains 500 tablets," says Chief Horton.

The containers are made of aluminum and are silver in color with a white top and the product label is displayed on the sides.

They sell for roughly $40 a canister.

Symptoms of contact involve headaches, dizziness, difficulty breathing, vomiting and diarrhea.

Over exposure can lead to death.

"We are very concerned that this might get into the wrong hands and be used in a house or be played with. If it's thrown in a yard, it could kill dogs or children crawling on the ground. It's a very dangerous chemical," says Chief Horton.

Police say the suspect may have kicked down a locked door to get to the chemical.

25 gallons of Malathion were also taken from the storage.

That substance is believed to be used in gardens.
