DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes says preliminary medical reports show an 28-year-old inmate at the county jail died from a bowel obstruction.

Ben Earnest, a deputy Houston County coroner, said McCall was pronounced dead around 8 p.m. Monday at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

The Houston County Sheriff's Office released a statement saying corrections officers found Jonathan Scott McCall unresponsive and without a pulse around 4:30 p.m. Monday in his cell. McCall was found in what appeared to be a praying position. Medical staff at the jail began CPR and he was taken to the hospital.

McCall was booked into the Houston County Jail without bond on April 28 for making terrorist threats.
