SALEM, Ala. (AP) - Officials say a 10-year-old boy was killed Saturday afternoon in an ATV crash in Salem.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Josh Evans of Salem was killed instantly and died from massive head injuries.
Paramedics were called to the scene around 4:30 p.m. Harris said in a statement tonight that it appears Evans was the lone occupant and driver of the utility vehicle.
He says Evans apparently looked away from his direction of travel and the vehicle struck a utility pole guide wire.
The ATV ran up the wire and then flipped on its side and landed on top of the boy.
Evans was at a friend's home when the crash happened.
The incident is still being investigated. It is being treated as an accident and no autopsy is planned.
