Troy University- Dothan was the site of the inaugural Wiregrass AIDS Walk Saturday morning.
Walkers braved the cold to show their support for HIV and AIDS awareness.
The event was sponsored by Montgomery AIDS Outreach, a non-profit organization that has an office right here in Dothan.
Their goal is to provide services to people battling HIV/AIDS as well as prevention and education programs.
Organizers stress people living with the virus can lead normal lives.
“HIV and AIDS is no longer a death sentence. that there's people that can live a long time with the virus by taking good care of themselves and stuff they can live a long time and that's the main goal in our clinic by providing medical care and needed medicines that they need,” said Wanda Helms of the Montgomery AIDS Outreach of Dothan.
Money raised through today's AIDS walk will support patients being treated right here in the wiregrass.
