WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama will make a personal pitch to lawmakers Friday just before the House votes on health care reform legislation. That's according to congressional sources. The House could vote on the overhaul on Saturday.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Some advocates for the jobless are saying it's about time the Senate took action on extending unemployment benefits. The vote was 98-0 to extend the benefits up to 20 weeks.

The legislation was held up at first by senators from states with
lower jobless rates, and then by Republicans seeking to add
amendments unrelated to the base bill.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Three lawmakers hope to rescue climate
legislation held up in the Senate. Democrat John Kerry, Republican Lindsey Graham, and Independent Joe Lieberman are working behind the scenes on a compromise. The legislation aims to reduce heat-trapping gases by 83 percent by 2050. Opponents say it will raise energy prices and cause job losses.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Authorities in Cleveland say they've determined that the police have recovered the remains of at least 11 people at the home of a sex offender. A skull found in the basement belongs to a body that hasn't been found. Police have identified one of the victims.

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Officials in Mexico City say three doctors
and a nurse have been arrested for allegedly selling newborns. They allegedly told mothers their babies had died at a private hospital. Prosecutors say one child was sold for about $1,100.
