A local dentist is being recognized for his service to the community.

Southern Linc Wireless has named Dr. Russell Nichols from Fresh Wave Dental Care in Enterprise a Southern Hero.

Dr. Nichols joined up with Family Services of Coffee County to bring free dental care to children who couldn't afford it.

Many of whom have never been to a dentist before.

“Dr. Nichols has done a great thing by looking at what's going on in the community and recognizing that there were a number of people in Enterprise that did not have access to dental care," says Jamie Schaff with Southern Linc Wireless.

But those at the Family Services say Dr. Nichol’s commitment to the community goes beyond this one event.

“He was there for years with us. It wasn't just a one day thing. That's just the way he feels about taking care of children and families,” says Judy Crowley with family services.

Nichols says he was just doing what he loves and cares about.

“It's very difficult to get recognized for something that's a passion of yours. If it's taking care of your patients or being a positive individual for the community, also for your staff and be recognized for something that you feel within your heart is very humbling,” says Dr. Nichols.

In order to continue Dr. Nichol's work, Southern Linc Wireless also donated a check of $2009 to the Family Services of Coffee County.

Dr. Nichols was very appreciative of his staff who also gave of their time to the cause.
