MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Electronic bingo games have been shut
down at the White Hall Resort and Entertainment Center while
operators of the gaming facility study the impact of a Supreme
Court ruling.
Attorney Joe Espy said the center closed its bingo operations at
5 p.m. Wednesday and would remain closed for at least two weeks.
Espy said 105 employees were laid off as a result of the decision
to shut down.
Espy represents Cornerstone Community Outreach, which operates
the center.
The Supreme Court's ruling lifted a restraining order that had
prevented the governor's task force on gambling from raiding the
White Hall gaming center. Espy said Cornerstone officials want to
make sure the games at White Hall are in compliance with guidelines
set out in the Supreme Court order.
