Donald Rex “Snuffy” Smith, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 70.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Pine Hills Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. James Deese and Bro. John Taylor officiating. Burial with full Masonic Rites will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born June 2, 1937 in Houston County and lived here his entire lifetime. He was employed with Couch Construction for thirty-two years and was a member of the Alabama National Guard serving for twenty eight years. Mr. Smith was a member of Pine Hills Freewill Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Preston and Ruby Elliott Smith, and a sister, Betty Jean Dove.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Sara Johnson Smith, Dothan; son, Donny Smith, Dothan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Roberts (Allen), Midland City, Gayle Moore (Richard), Sneads, FL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James Smith (Sharon), Cowarts, John Smith (Mott), Dothan; two sisters, Janet Still, Cowarts, Jerline Williams, Lakeland, FL; six grandchildren, Kristy Mathis, Stevie Moore, Allen Brodgen, Casey Moore, Kaylee Smith, Ashley Smith; two great-grandchildren, Micaylia Moore, Landon Moore; special friend, Tom Parrish; Dothan members of 1203rd Engineer Co.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Kristy Mathis, Stevie Moore, Allen Brodgen, Casey Moore, Kaylee Smith, Ashley Smith; Michael Drake and Terry Cole.
