Bill Campbell, a resident of Dothan, passed away Friday, December 15, 2006 at his residence. He was 75 years old.
Memorial services for Mr. Campbell will be held 10:30 am Monday, December 18 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Brother John Christy officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; The American Cancer Society, 2346 W. Main Street, Suite 3, Dothan, AL 36301-1224, First Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303 or to ones favorite charity.
Mr. Campbell was an avid football fan and spent 30 years officiating football, the first 14 years in the Birmingham Football Officials Association and his last 16 years in the Southeast Alabama Football Officials Association. He was also a member of the Alabama High School Officials Association, enabling him to referee All State Championship games in five of the six classifications, including the first ever 6A State Championship game held in Alabama. At the same time, he officiated the Gulf South Conference games for the first eight years of its existence. He was a three-time President of the Southeast Alabama Football Association and served on the board of directors for 14 years. Even after his retirement, he continued to support this Association by attending most of its games and helping to train young officials. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church and served on the Finance Committee there.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Hill Campbell, Dothan; three daughters and sons in law, Shelley Campbell and husband Norman Hammock, Birmingham, AL, Deidre and Randy Festavan, Helena, AL, Shawna and Randy Greene, Dothan; nine grandchildren, Seth Hammock and wife Lindsey, Chad Hammock, Blaire Hammock, Kevin Festavan and wife Wendy, Cade Festavan and wife Allison, Kari Festavan, Tori Gause, Trey Gause, Elliott Greene; four great grandchildren.
