Having an incentive to go to school is always a big help to get up in the morning, and school officials in Henry County are giving students a reason to do so.

Stephanie Blankenship, with the Henry County Economic Development Authority said, "They are going to be actually dual enrolled so they will be getting college credit while enrolled in high school and also getting high school credit."

Blankenship says both Headland and Abbeville High Schools will be offering dual enrollment in avionics courses for students through Enterprise Ozark Community College.

And, one of the best parts is, it’s at no cost to the students.

"We were able to secure the funding so that the students will not have to have any out of pocket costs in order to do that,” Blankenship added.

That saves parents an average of a $1000 dollars for just the first two classes; it’s something students at Abbeville High say is a tremendous relief.

Abbeville High School Sophomore Jameka Oates said, "It's easier, it's like it’s something that my parents won't have to worry about, they won't be, you know, sweatin’ bullets, worrying about if they gonna’ have enough money to actually send me to college, cause I'm going to college."

School officials say the program not only helps students with the workforce, but also helps build their future.

Abbeville High Guidance Counselor Stephanie Capps said, "We're looking forward to it because it’s gonna’ give these kids something to look to as far as their future early. It’s gonna’ keep them in school."

Officials say the avionics program takes two years to complete, allowing students to get a job directly out of school and starting off at $40,000 dollars a year.

An informational meeting will be held for both parents and students on Monday at 6PM in Headland High School’s Auditorium.

The dual enrollment programs will begin in August.
