Michael Smithart began serving as the Opp City Schools new superintendent.

He has been in the Opp school district for the past 11-years.

He will oversee 1,400 students and manage an annual budget of around 11-million dollars.

The 37-year-old Covington County native has two children in the school district.

Smithhart was appointed superintendent after the retirement of longtime administrator Earl Weeks.
