A Wiregrass school system wants things to be a little more uniform.

Some school officials believe switching the school dress code will allow students to achieve more while in class.

Charles Henderson Middle School eighth grader Marybeth Wasden is volunteering more than just her time in class; in fact, she's volunteering to test out school uniforms. "I am really so supportive of the idea as a whole, I just think it will be all together good," she said.

Charles Henderson Middle School is currently the only Troy City School testing the waters with having a school uniform.

Officials with the school say they've seen an overall positive response from both students and parents.

Troy City School Superintendent Linda Felton-Smith said, "We did a survey of our parents and in that survey, parents overwhelmingly showed interest in school uniforms."

And, while the majority favors the change, there are still some that are fearful of the switch.

Mcneel Dobson said, "Everybody always talks about being different and everything and I like that, and I don't want everyone to look the same."

However, school officials say switching to uniforms will allow students to focus more on their education, rather than the latest styles.

"They look the same, you're not focusing on their dress and you can really focus on their achievement and that is the achievement of all the students," Felton-Smith added.

And, that's exactly the message Wasden and other students are trying to pass along.

A final decision on if the uniforms will definitely be implemented in all city schools will be made in May.

I really don't find uniforms Necessary because most studnets don't wont to wear what everyone else is wearing. I presonally don't. Also Ssome students with self-esteem issues could have on some nice clothing and get a compliment by a more popular student, and that would make them feel better. Another factor is,if you make students who don't want to wear uniforms wear them, thats going to make them depressed because they have to wear what they are told and their minds wont be focused on their school work, more on their depression. Most students in the Troy City School system express themselves with the clothes they where, and when you where uniforms you cant express your self because you are wearing the smae thing everyone else is wearing. I personally like to express my self through my clothing, because i liketo be different but in a school-appropriate way.

I am against uniforms because that takes away the atylr of each student. And if we do switch over to uniforms, we all would eventually get tired of wearing the same thing OVER an OVER again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Concermomg Uniforms in Troy Schools. I recently moved to Dothan from Haughton, Louisiana. They went to the uniform systtem in thier school. I was a substitue teacher there and it worked out quiet well. The students were all working on thier lessons and not worrying about their clothes. All looked neat and clean. No baggy pants. No clothing thefts or fights over clothes. The best High School in North Louisiana.
