AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn lefthander Grant Dayton has been named the Southeastern Conference's freshman of the week.

The redshirt freshman allowed just one earned run in seven innings of a series-opening win over Mississippi State last Friday night. Dayton became the first Auburn pitcher to record 12 strikeouts in a game since 2002 and the first to do it in an SEC game since 1999.

Dayton is now 7-and-1 on the season and has won six straight decisions.
