HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer has denied reports that he was served with a subpoena to testify in an Alabama court case while appearing at the annual Southeastern Conference football media days.

The Tuscaloosa News reported that Fulmer was served with the document Thursday inside the hotel where the event was held, but the coach later disputed the report.

He told a small group of reporters that he doesn't know anything about a subpoena.

Attorneys have been seeking his sworn statements in a lawsuit filed by former Alabama booster Wendell Smith against the NCAA. A clerk in Jackson County confirmed to The Associated Press that the subpoena was issued Wednesday but did not know whether it had been given to Fulmer.
