TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - New Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain is drawing nice reviews from his boss and players so far.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said McElwain has brought diversity to the offense and enthusiasm to the team.

McElwain spent one season at Fresno State before Saban hired him. Fresno State coach Pat Hill had worked with Saban in the NFL and recommended his coordinator for the job replacing Major Applewhite.

McElwain does have his work cut out for him. The Tide offense has been stuck in the middle of the Southeastern Conference pack in recent seasons and was held to 14 points or fewer four times last season.

But McElwain said he's not a stats guy, but focuses on wins and losses.
