AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn is moving backup cornerback Demond
Washington to strong safety to replace the injured Zac Etheridge.
Coach Gene Chizik said the Tigers could also still use
Washington at cornerback. The junior college transfer had been the
fifth defensive back in passing situations.
Etheridge sustained a season-ending neck injury in Saturday's
game against Mississippi. He was released from the hospital Monday
and Chizik said the junior was in good spirits and had seen some of
his teammates.
Cornerback Walt McFadden said his understanding is that
Etheridge could play again next season if the injury heals
properly.
The Tigers have lost three starting defensive backs for the
season with injuries.
