Erica Proffer is the morning anchor for WTVY News 4. She joined WTVY in 2006 as the Dale County Bureau Reporter. In addition to anchoring, Erica reports daily for the nightly newscasts.
As a native of the Wiregrass, Erica came to WTVY straight from Troy University. There, she majored in Broadcast Journalism with a Spanish contract. Erica won numerous awards in college, including the Associated Press “Best Student News Anchor” and the National Broadcasting Society’s “Best Reporter.” Erica was honored in 2008 with her first professional award, the Associated Press “Best News Anchor.”
Erica discovered her love for journalism in high school, at George W. Long. She says she considers herself lucky to be able to come back home to begin her career.
Some of her proudest stories include reporting tornado damage in her hometown, Echo, and honoring her former high school basketball coach, Todd Horne, after he was killed in a car wreck.
In her spare time, Erica enjoys playing sports and relaxing on the beach.
