Skylar Zwick joined the WTVY News 4 family in March of 2009.
Before moving to Dothan, Skylar worked as anchor/reporter at the CBS affiliate in El Paso, Texas. Her responsibilities for the morning news show included at various times, traffic, weather, investigations and breaking news. After serving in that capacity, she was promoted to the anchor desk as co-host of the morning show, “Sunrise.”
Skylar was not always in the Southwest, however. A Tennessee native, raised in Florida, she began her career in governmental television where she learned the fundamentals of reporting, producing, editing and directing. She then got experience in the world of investigative journalism, working with the investigative news team at WTVJ-TV in Miami, Florida.
In addition to her media experience, Zwick is also national recognized for her success in forensic debating. She gained notice in the National Forensics League as a nationally ranked Congressional Debater specializing in impromptu and ad lib speaking on a wide range of topics including governmental legislation and current events. Skylar won more than 40 local and national tournament championships. She was also chosen as one of the first women to ever be ranked in the top eight public speakers in the country.
She continued to be active in debating while attending the University of Miami. While at UM, she coached other debaters and helped establish the University’s Parliamentary Debate team. During this time, Zwick also had the distinguished opportunity to work with U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida in both his Miami and Washington, D.C. offices.
Skylar graduated from the University of Miami with Bachelor degrees in Communications and Psychology with additional study in International Relations. She then went on to earn a Master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.
In her spare time, Zwick enjoys modeling, dancing, reading, cooking, spending time with family and indulging in the cultural arts. Her charitable involvement includes the Susan G. Komen Foundation, American Cancer Society, mentoring at-risk youth and educational foundations.
