NATIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY:
Across the eastern two-thirds of the country today, a low
pressure system and cold front will push across the Great Lakes
today and through the Northeast tonight. This system will spread
mainly rain showers across the eastern Great Lakes and Northeast.
Rain amounts will generally be less than a tenth of an inch;
however, locally heavier amounts up to 0.35 inches will be possible
across upstate New York. Some light snow is expected to fall across
higher elevations of Vermont, New York and Pennsylvania. Snow
amounts will likely be less than an inch. Dry conditions are
expected across the Southeast and most of the central U.S. Some
showers will likely plague southern Florida today. Meanwhile,
temperatures will will be cool this morning, prompting frost
advisories across Tennessee as well as Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas
and Oklahoma.
Dry conditions will come to an end across the western U.S. today as a Pacific cold front is set to come ashore. This system will
begin to spread rain showers into the coast from northern
California to Washington by late morning. Rain showers will get
heavier and more intense this evening and tonight as the cold front
comes ashore. Rain amounts along the coast could range from two to
three inches. Higher elevations of the Cascade Mountains in
Washington could see a few inches of snow overnight.

ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY:
In 1894, an election day snowstorm dropped as much as a foot of snow across Connecticut. Winds gusted to 60 mph across Rhode Island.
In 1977, slow moving storms dumped five to nine inches of rain across northern Georgia, causing the Toccoa Dam to burst. Waters rushed through the Toccoa Falls Bible College, killing 3 people. A
trailer park located near the dam was the hardest hit, with 38 fatalities.
In 2002, severe thunderstorms produced a tornado which killed two people and injured 25 in the Alabama town of Abbeville.
