Weather Summary for Saturday, Nov. 7
NATIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY:
High pressure is centered over the Carolinas, providing dry conditions and seasonal temperatures throughout the eastern U.S. A weak cold front is tracking across the Great Lakes, but is
providing little more than a wind shift on either side of the
front. Above-normal temperatures are found throughout the central
U.S. today with afternoon highs from 10-15 degrees above normal
across the central and northern Plains. There has not been any
precipitation reported east of the Rockies today.
A powerful Pacific storm system is impacting the Pacific
Northwest with rain and thunderstorms. Gusty winds have also been
reported across the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies. Snow
levels are roughly 3,000 feet across the Cascades, where winter
storm warnings remain in effect. Total snowfall between 6-12 inches
are expected by Sunday morning across the passes. Sunny skies and
seasonal temperatures are found across the remainder of the West.

ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY:
In 1940, the Galloping Gertie bridge in Tacoma, Washington
collapsed after vibrating wildly in high winds, resulting in $6
million in damage.
In 1943, a snowstorm dropped up to 2 feet of snow over Minnesota and South Dakota. In eastern South Dakota, a million Thanksgiving turkeys were smothered by the heavy snowfall.
In 1986, an early season blizzard struck the northern Plains. North Dakota received the brunt of the storm, with snowfall
accumulations of up to 25 inches at Devils Lake and wind gusts up
to 70 mph.
